Job Description

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Collection & Exhibition, the Head, International Relations will be responsible for providing vision and leadership to ensure the effective delivery of international partnerships with a focus on programmes and research. The post holder will be working alongside the museum senior management team and across different departments to define and deliver an ambitious global strategy.


You will be responsible for:

leading the development, definition and delivery of the international collaboration strategy for M+ both regionally in Asia and globally;
proactively identifying new opportunities for partnerships around programme sharing, educational initiatives, conservation & research activities and touring exhibitions;
working with the Museum Director and Deputy Directors to define and promote regional and international partnerships to build networks to share programmes, research and expertise;
in coordination with the Senior Conservator (future Head, Conservation) develop international collaborations in the Conservation field, including but not limited to knowledge sharing opportunities, symposia and research projects;
working closely with the Head, Exhibition & Displays, to identify opportunities for touring exhibitions, overseeing the development of the programme and providing support for a successful delivery;
ensuring the international partnerships business and planning models bring sustainability and maximise income generation;
being a recognised and respected spokesperson for the M+’s international presence in close collaboration with M+’s development strategies with regards to sponsorships and patronage; and
working closely with the Development Department on proactive international engagement by coordinating incoming high-level visits to M+ and Hong Kong.


You should:

possess a university degree or equivalent in Arts Administration, Cultural Management, Museum Studies, Art history, or other relevant subject, or equivalent experience;
have at least 10 years’ experience managing international projects within a museum/cultural organisation setting with substantial responsibility at senior management level;
have proven experience of developing and delivering an international strategy;
have strong experience in the cultural sector, preferably in a large institution with a substantial international programme;
possess broad management experience, strong people management skills and proven ability to work with other organisations at senior level;
demonstrate excellent communication skills, written and verbal, in English and preferably in Chinese, with an ability to interact effectively with a range of stakeholders across the museum and the cultural sector. Additional languages would be a plus;
have ability to influence relationships at senior level;
have a collaborative approach to team working with ability to work cross-departmentally and develop effective relationships through the organisation;
have strong financial and performance management skills, to strategically manage resources and ensure financial sustainability; and
have ability to effectively manage large project and competing priorities and tasks.
