Job Description:
This temporary summer position is full-time, Tuesday to Saturdays. (35 hours per week). Schedule requires working weekends and some holidays (time in lieu will be given for those days). It is based at the Rev. Forbes Homestead and Pioneer Hospital. The Historical Site Interpreter will oversee day-to-day operations at the site. They will conduct research and provide guided tours of the site. They are expected to take a significant role with event implementation including afternoon teas. Educational programming will be a focus in 2020. The interpreter will be taught the proper care and handling of artifacts and will assist with historical based education program creation and implementation at various museum sites. The Historic Site Interpreter will be expected to assist with exhibit creation and special events (i.e. Canada Day and Heritage Day). For those bilingual in both official languages there would be an opportunity to create French programs and promotional material.

The Forbes Homestead will be the primary location for this position, but some duties will be performed at the Grande Prairie Museum and the Heritage Discovery Centre. This position would be ideal for those with an interest in the tourism industry, Alberta history and education. It will require someone who is equally at home working alone or with a group and has excellent customer service skills.

Qualifications include a valid class 5 driver’s licence, proficient in Microsoft Office programs and minimum one year of post-secondary education. A current First Aid and CPR certificate is an asset. A criminal/ vulnerable sector records check will be required.
