Job Description

DUTIES:

Reporting to the Audio-Visual Technician III, performs specialized technical work in support of exhibitions utilizing audio-visual equipment. As directed by the Audio-Visual Technician III securely installs, prepares, operates and transports all audio-visual equipment for artwork installations.

The work includes installation of equipment and cabling within the gallery architecture for semi-permanent installation, soldering and cable termination, safe and accurate mounting of audio-visual hardware, computer operation, and basic construction using a variety of materials. Heavy lifting, working on ladders and lifts, cleaning and organization, and working both individually and as part of a team is required. The incumbent will also perform related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of the twelfth school grade supplemented by technical courses in audio-visual technology plus two years experience working with audio-visual hardware or in the trades related to the audio-visual field. Excellent working knowledge of contemporary audio-visual hardware, and a solid understanding AV signal flow and power distribution is required. Experience with AV mounting hardware and rigging systems, running wire for power and AV signal distribution, and safe construction practices. Knowledge of computer programming and networking, audio and video editing, presentation software and wireless systems is also beneficial. Experience working on aerial lifts is an asset. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, effective problem solving and the ability to work with colleagues in a team-oriented environment. Experience working in a visual arts institution is an asset.
