Job Description

The Cumberland Museum and Archives tells the story of the people of Cumberland, a vibrant village with a rich history located on beautiful Vancouver Island. The museum focuses on Cumberland’s coal mining past and accompanying themes of labour organizing as well as Chinese and Japanese immigration, exclusion, and migration. It provides a range of services to visitors
including engaging exhibits, research services, after school programs, heritage events, guided walking tours, and a replica coal mine. Though small, this exceptional museum has achieved
provincial and national recognition as an award-winning cultural institution.

voice building strategic partnerships and supporting the diverse history of the community. The ideal candidate has a blended experience in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. The
successful candidate will have strong organizational abilities with excellent interpersonal, financial, governance, and strategic planning skills.

Skills and Abilities:
● Ability to inspire and lead to achieve the organization’s vision, goals, and objectives
● Ability to research and write compelling proposals and grant applications to multiple funding agencies

● Excellent communications and marketing skills, including experience with web and digital media tools
● Proven success building community support through public relations, advocacy, and fundraising

Knowledge and Experience:
● Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience related to management in arts and culture
● In-depth understanding of business operations
● Experience as a consensus builder and a motivator
● Strong and proven experience in fundraising at non-profit organizations (proven track record with specifics should be provided)
● Understanding and experience in history and in museum and archival practices
● Strong interest in one of the museum’s key subject areas: labour history, Chinese and Japanese immigrant communities, mining and logging history is an asset
