Job Description

The Vice-President, Digital and Public Affairs is one of eight positions at the first manager level reporting to the President and CEO of Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation.  The position is accountable for a full range of strategic planning, direction, development and execution of all activities relating to Ingenium’s digital presence, internal and external communications, marketing and outreach, intergovernmental relations, publishing, graphic design, and new media.  The Digital and Public Affairs Branch provides strategic advice and services to all of Ingenium which includes the three museums namely, Canada Agricultural and Food Museum; Canada Aviation and Space Museum and Canada Science and Technology Museum.  Moreover, this position is the organization’s lead representative to media, and social media channels; for advising the President & CEO, the Executive Leadership Team and the Senior Management Team on strategic communications management; for advising the Board of Trustees on digital and strategic communication matters; and for representing Ingenium in dealing with other government agencies, outside contractors and organizations. 
EDUCATION:
- completion of bachelor’s degree in the related field is required;
- a Master’s degree is preferred;
- equivalencies will be considered.
EXPERIENCE: 
- minimum of ten (10) years of previous experience in related progressive leadership roles;
- significant experience in all areas of the portfolio, with a knowledge of issues, trends and new technologies in museums, science, technology, communication and policy; 
- experience working in STEM communications is an asset

Knowledge :
- outstanding management expertise, the capacity to develop and lead strategic plans, and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive and diverse team-building, responsive and proactive communications, staff development and stakeholder management;
- broad knowledge and expertise of the digital ecosystem to develop strategic digital solutions to address our business challenges and goals by working very closely with the three museums and the collection teams to provide an integrated and holistic approach to their goals and objectives;
- in-depth knowledge of the principles, practices and methodologies of communications, digital, public /media relations, social media, and marketing
- knowledge of leadership practices in people management, strategic planning and risk management, policy development, financial management and stakeholder relationship management;
- knowledge of issues and trends of cultural heritage, science, technology, museums, and broader public policy, economic, political, social and environmental;
Abilities:
- effectively interpret speaking opportunities related to positioning the Corporation and the preparation of speeches and talking points to meet these objectives especially in crisis management;
- expertise in making presentations and negotiating with the media;
- wide range of excellent communications and interpersonal skills, ability to effectively interact with media, government, community leaders and internal stakeholders of the Corporation;
- excellent oral and written communication skills including expertise in writing and editing an assortment of communication materials
