Job Posting: History Program Coordinator
Full Time (35 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday)
About OMAH:
The Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) is a not-for-profit charitable organization, overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by volunteers and a variety of community stakeholders and partners. OMAH acts as a steward of the community’s art, history and culture by being actively engaged in the community and responsive to its needs. The museum maintains a collection of historical artifacts, archives and works of art, creates exhibits and delivers programs that inspire the community to explore, experience and engage with art, local history and culture.
Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and supported by volunteers and interns, the History Program Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering OMAH’s history programming, overseeing the artifact collection and archives and developing historical exhibitions for display in OMAH’s galleries. The position works collaboratively with the ED, other staff members, volunteers and committees to support OMAH’s Strategic Plan and achieve desired outcomes.
Requirements:
Knowledge, skills, experience and education consistent with the requirement to:
• Plan, develop, deliver and evaluate effective historical public programming to appeal to a wide variety of audiences
• Develop, curate and mount historical exhibits featuring artifacts from the collection as well as sourcing other relevant items to support and enhance the exhibit
• Oversee the management of OMAH’s collections of historical artifacts and archives including acquisition, documentation, maintenance and retrieval; support research requests for material from the collection and archives
• Work closely with volunteers to deliver programs and exhibits and to manage OMAH’s historical collection and archives
• Contribute to a respectful and courteous workplace that includes collaboration with co-workers and volunteers
