Assistant Curator of Engagement

Reporting to the Curator of Contemporary Art, this position is accountable to design and deliver all public outreach activities over 16-weeks that will engage new audiences in a conversation about contemporary art. The activities to be developed in concert with the Curator of Contemporary Art, include facilitating virtual artist talks, artist panel discussions, specialized workshops, facilitating take home and virtual Super Saturday family art activities, leading online guided tours and school tours for the community. There will be special focus on adapting outreach programming for online environments while still engaging communities. 

The Assistant Curator of Engagement will also act as a mentor to the student positions such as the Curatorial Assistant, guiding them in engagement, outreach, and their role as an ambassador for the Gallery. All programs require authorization before they are considered approved. Priorities for the contract include: developing virtual school programs and meeting goals for student outreach and engagement. All studio classes must be re-imagined for the new situation and need to break even financially in order to operate. Workshops and exhibition outreach programs are funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and are integral to core programming; they must be re-imagined with intent and inclusion in mind. The position will also be accountable for future research for the 2021 programming season and onward.
