About the CMA:
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is the national organization for the advancement of the Canadian museum sector, representing Canadian museum professionals both within Canada and internationally. The membership includes nearly 2,000 members from non-profit museums, art galleries, science centres, aquaria, archives, sport halls-of-fame, artist-run centres, zoos and historic sites across Canada. They range from large metropolitan galleries to small community museums. The CMA provides professional development programs, networking opportunities, and a body of knowledge to its members.
Job Description:
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is searching for two Records Management Technicians to work alongside the Young Canada Works and Finance and Operations departments, to help further the digitization of and create a standardized classification system for CMA’s paper and digital records. They will be responsible for reviewing documents, making recommendation for future retention, operating the equipment for digitization, maintaining electronic records, and returning originals into storage. As a bilingual service organization, the records could be found in either official language. In order to complete this project effectively, candidates must have strong reading skills in both official languages, while fluency is preferred. The Records Management Technician will play a vital role in undertaking a review of our database files, ensuring ease of access of historical records and allowing the CMA to offer superior services for researchers, Canadian museums, and the general public.
Responsibilities include:
§ Continue the digitization of paper files
§ Work on updating and maintaining the accuracy of our master paper filing system, including sorting and preparation of records to be sent to the Government of Canada
§ Ensure correct handling of sensitive, fragile or deteriorating records
§ Work on updating and maintaining the accuracy of our digital filing system
§ Conduct research into systems, security and confidentiality surrounding filing and information management practices
§ Assist the Young Canada Works team with other various related tasks, as needed
§ Assist the finance team with other various related tasks, as needed
Education:
§ Young Canadian with background in Arts Administration, Museums/Museology, Archival Studies, Library and Information Science, or Information Management.
Language Proficiency:
Strong communication skills and good writing skills in both English and French.

The work week will consist of 35 paid hours worked from Monday to Friday, with a 1-hour unpaid meal break. The salary is $15.00 per hour. The professional staff of the CMA will provide basic training and support for the chosen candidates. These positions will provide a rewarding experience for the students by helping them to develop further their communication, organization and records management, project management, time management, and writing skills.
