Job Description
ESummary:
The Curatorial Assistant will assist with the evaluation, conservation, management and presentation of the Civic Art Collection and Public Art Program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Catalogue, deaccession and enter new information into The Museum System database as required, including the annual review of art locations and the addition of new acquisitions and exhibits
Undertake work as assigned on current public art programming, including exhibits and public art calls for the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, the Meridian Centre and City Hall
Research and report writing related to the Civic Art Collection, specifically on artist information and justifications for acquisition process;
Assist staff with annual condition assessments of all outdoor art and memorials;
Assist with the continued development of a Collection Management Procedures Manual and acquisitions policy;
Develop a system of prioritization for display locations for artwork within City facilities;
Assist staff with indoor and outdoor exhibit development, research, granting information and community engagement as needed.
Develop business sponsorship program for future neighbourhood murals, based on success of pilot project of Catherine Street Park murals.
Currently enrolled in curatorial studies, museum studies, art and design, fine art history, or equivalent program.
Confident in daily computer use, and proficient Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of fine arts and photography, research and cataloguing techniques.
Some curatorial experience is preferred.
Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Past experience as a volunteer or employee in an art gallery, museum or historic site would be an asset.
Knowledge of German or other languages would be an asset.
A valid Ontario driver’s license
Hourly Rate: $16.88
Expected Work Location: St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre
Expected Hours of Work: Currently Monday-Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
