General Description:
The Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum is an open-air museum with 8 heritage buildings and two interpretive buildings on-site. The ideal candidate has an interest in history and education with some programming experience. The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic and a self-starter, with excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Primary Job Functions:
- Research, design and prepare two education programs for primary, junior or senior grades, ensuring that the growing diverse community can access the museums history.
- Prepare and implement six weeks of day camp programs for ages 5-12 themed around cooking, history, sciences, and physical activity, incorporating STEAM principles and including evaluation measures.
- Assist in the creation of a Volunteer Interpretation Guide for several of the heritage buildings including the Cookhouse, Log Cabin, Doan House and the Sharon Temple.
- Assist in the preparation, set-up and take-down and implementation of four special events, including Heritage Celebration, Pigs n’ Pints, Canada Day Community Celebration and our Annual Canadian Citizenship Ceremony.
- Provide daily site tours for individuals and groups based on their specific interests through the sites 8 heritage buildings.
- Assist in front of house services, including welcoming visitors, providing exceptional customer service, processing admissions and providing gift shop sales when necessary in the Museum’s Gate House.
- Propose, undertake and successfully complete an individual project based on personal interests that will help advance ones professional development and follow the museums mandate.

General Duties:
- Provide interpretation to the public through tours, education and outreach programs.
- Special events and program preparation and day of event assistance
- Assist staff with daily attendance tracking, gift shop inventory, and cash balancing.
- Conduct daily and weekly preventative maintenance checks on historic buildings.
- Provide support for wedding and rental preparation.
- Provide support as needed to other staff members.
- Other tasks, as required.

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled and returning to full time post-secondary studies in Museum Studies, Education, Early Childhood Education, Recreation and Leisure, Art History, History, or related field.
- The ideal candidate will have an interest in the career fields of Museums, History, Arts, or Education.
- Aged 16-30 and registered in the YCW candidate inventory accessible on the YCW website as per the Young Canada Works...in Heritage Organizations program guidelines.
- Previous experience working with the public in a structured setting, in a paid and/or volunteer capacity.
- Previous experience working with and programming for children in a camp and education setting is an asset.
- Computer proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of PastPerfect or other Collections Management software is an asset.
- Must possess or be willing to train for Standard First Aid and CPR.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a successful Vulnerable Sectors Screening.
- Be prepared to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, and evenings.

Physical Requirements:
The Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum is located north of Toronto on 4.5 acres. As this is a large site with multiple buildings, the candidate will be required to move between these buildings and around the site as needed to conduct various activities.
