Job Description

Title: Education and Public Programs Coordinator
Reports to: Visitor Experience Manager
Employment Status: Full-time, one-year term position with possibility of permanent employment
Compensation: $16.00 - $17.00/hour
Deadline: November 29, 2019
Location: Ottawa, ON (Carp)
Hours: 37.5 hours/week. Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Education and Public Programs Coordinator develops, assesses, and delivers comprehensive and dynamic learning programs for diverse audiences both on and off site including the Museum’s award-winning Conflict Resolution workshop, spy camps throughout the year, seasonal programming, library outreach, and exhibition programming. In addition, the Coordinator will lead the design and development of a new grant funded Youth Room to better serve our community. This position involves building relationships with new and potential education partners, and strengthening existing relationships through thoughtful and authentic communication.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, assess, and deliver workshops and public programs both on and offsite, including educational programs, outreach, and special activities
• Develop curriculum-based programs that are rooted in hands-on, experiential, and inquiry-based methods encouraging exploration and self-directed learning
• Train museum staff and support their delivery of quality education programming such as the museum’s award winning Conflict Resolution Workshop and Spy Camps
• Lead all of Diefenbunker school partnerships. Maintain ongoing partnership programs and build new relationships with potential partners and design tailored curriculum. Deepen connections with partner schools' teachers, families, and broader communities
• Regularly assess effectiveness of and implement changes to education and public programs and resources based on participant feedback collected through surveys and one-on-one dialogue
• Help generate and coordinate development of marketing materials for all education and public programs and resources, including an educator e-newsletter
• Lead and manage the development of a new grant-funded Youth Room
• Apply for appropriate education and programming grants
• Represent and promote the Diefenbunker’s education and public programs at museum, art, and education related meetings, workshops, and conferences at a local, regional, and national level
• Foster a collaborative work environment of support, trust and respect while championing the Museum’s messages, policies, and values in a professional and respectful manner

QUALIFICATIONS
• Commitment to equity and inclusion
• Bachelor's degree in Museum Education, Art, Art History, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree preferred
• One to two years related education/public programs experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and over the phone
• Preferred experience leading workshops or seminars for youth
• Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy using MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and other software programs
• Strong organization and coordination skills
• Ability to work independently, motivate self, and work collaboratively on project teams
• Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multitasked environment; ability to be receptive to changing priorities and work well under pressure; excellent time management, problem solving, and analytical skills
• Ability to adhere to Museum policies and to support management decisions in a positive, professional manner
• Functionality in the second official language preferred
