JOB DESCRIPTION: PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR,
ENCOUNTERS WITH CANADA

The Programming Coordinator, Encounters with Canada will be an individual who is passionate about the work of Historica Canada, has had experience working with a team to achieve deliverables in a timely fashion and is enthusiastic about celebrating and promoting the stories of Canada’s cultural and linguistic diversity. The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented, flexible and a strong communicator.

The responsibilities of the Programming Coordinator, Encounters with Canada include:

• Coordinate and execute the development and implementation of the weekly programs at Encounters with Canada, based on the agreed-upon weekly themes;
• Design the weekly program schedule in timetable format;
• Create programming slides for on-site TV screens, communicating the daily schedule to participants;
• Along with the Manager of Operations, organize speakers, visits and resource people from the local community to be part of the program curriculum;
• Assist with the scheduling, evaluation and supervision of approximately 162 teacher-monitors annually;
• Seek new program contacts and maintain partnerships with existing ones.
• Work with transportation staff, as necessary to ensure smooth communication as students arrive and depart from the Centre;
• Together with programing/recruitment staff, provide on-call support to the transportation staff and travel agency implant on weekends during the program, as necessary;
• Assist the Manager of Operations, EWC, with the invoicing and tracking of the program budgets;
• Help with the creation of quarterly activity reports, forecasts and budgets for program funders, in conjunction with the Director, EWC and under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Education;
• Represent the organization at various events, as requested by senior management;
• Complete other duties, as assigned by the senior management team.

Qualifications:
• A completed degree or diploma in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Education or other relevant education and experience;
• English/French bilingualism is required in this position;
• Minimum 2-3 years professional working experience;
• Experience scheduling or booking speaking engagements/workshops strongly preferred;
• Self-motivated, self-starter, comfortable working independently or as part of a team;
• Experience working in the non-profit, cultural, education, or museum sector an asset;
• Budgeting experience an asset;
• Excellent research and writing skills;
• Knowledge of Canadian history and an interest in questions around Canadian identity and cultural heritage;
• Exceptional organization and time management skills;
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).

This is a permanent position. The annual salary will be between $45,000 to $50,000 (depending on experience) less applicable statutory deductions which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.

This position is based at Historica Canada’s Encounters with Canada location in Ottawa.
This position will require travel (air and ground) within Canada.
