Job Description

members who support staff, the public and the success of the City's network of municipal museums.

award-winning Toronto Public Service as a Museum Coordinator within our Economic Development
and Culture Division.

Major Responsibilities:

Oversees museum operation, provides staff direction, strategic planning, development and
coordination of programs for clients and the community.
Conducts the appropriate analysis to initiate and develop plans to ensure effective and
efficient operational planning and service delivery.
Identifies, nurtures and administers community partnerships to ensure that cultural diversity of
the city is reflected in the programs
Maintains relationships with various client groups, including teachers, group leaders, volunteer
organizations, community partners, arts groups and business partners.
Develops and delivers new interpretive, educational and exhibit programs for a variety of client
groups in response to changing environmental and demographic factors.
Ensures a high quality of public service through the evaluation of client needs and
coordination of on-site response.
Ensures the mission and mandate of the museum are met, and develops a long term plan for
the facility in accordance with the section/division strategic plans and objectives.
Develops and implements strategies to involve under-represented and under-served
communities in the museums.
Plans, develops, administers, evaluates and coordinates the museums’ existing interpretive
services and other public services.
Assists in recruiting, selecting, training and monitoring service delivery of part-time Recreation
staff.
Schedules the work of staff, trains and motivates staff and volunteers in the museum.
Develops and implements quality service delivery standards, fiscal management strategies,
and sound financial management emphasizing internal control to meet the needs of customers
and to achieve revenue targets.
Provides input into and administers assigned operating budget, ensuring that expenditures are
controlled and revenues are collected and deposited, in compliance with corporate finance
policies and procedures.
Maintains records related to budget administration.
Prepares contracts and invoices for room rentals.
Assists the Division in the planning and completion of grant applications and budget reports.
Improves operational performance through evaluating expenditures and attendance figures,
and adjusts operations accordingly.
Ensures compliance with safety and security matters under Occupational Health and Safety
legislation and divisional safety and security policies, including work place accommodations.
Communicates with a variety of client groups and liaises with stakeholders and contributes to
the development and implementation of marketing activities for the museums and for special
projects as assigned.
Assists with the research and application/ contract preparation for fundraising and sponsorship
opportunities for major cultural events and initiatives.
Prepares materials for marketing the museum, and other special projects that may include
Doors Open Toronto, and other municipal initiatives.
Participates in outreach programming and promotion of museum related programs and
events.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
1. Post-secondary education in a discipline(s) related to the duties of the position including
museum studies, arts administration, education, cultural site management, or an equivalent
combination of education with progressive experience in museums.
2. Extensive experience in designing, developing and evaluating innovative, dynamic public
history programs based on demographic research and trend analysis to enhance public image
and expand participation.
3. Extensive experience working with the public and with community outreach, providing
excellent customer service; developing and sustaining partnerships with a variety of internal
and external stakeholders.
4. Considerable experience in administering program budgets, developing alternative revenue
strategies, and managing competing interests of multiple stakeholders.
5. Experience in providing work direction, guidance and training to staff.

You must also have:

Knowledge of Toronto history including contemporary, urban and cultural issues.
Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and conflict
resolution skills.
A proven ability to be flexible and to thrive in a high-stress, creative environment with frequent
and competing deadlines, prioritize and complete multiple tasks and high performance
expectations.
Ability to take initiative and direction, taking ownership of a project as well as being a strong
team player in fulfilling the section’s and the division’s goals.
Ability to motivate and nurture a positive and productive team environment.
Proficiency in various marketing and communication platforms including social media.
Experience in researching, preparing and writing grant proposals and reports.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Current First Aid, Smart Serve, Safe Food Handling certification and JHSC training is an asset
or must be willing to obtain.
Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity,
