DUTIES: The Digitization Technician will assist both the Curator and Archivist with increasing digital accessibility to the Museum’s artifact and archival holdings, furthering the progress of the Museum’s ongoing collections inventory and accessibility projects. Primary duties include creating searchable PDFs of archival documents using optical character recognition (OCR) software, implementing metadata standards, creating Rules for Archival Description (RAD) compliant item-level descriptions, updating database entries, and taking photographs of artifacts and oversized archival records. In addition to the primary duties, the Technician will assist with delivery of visitor services including engaging with visitors and archival researchers, exhibit and other interpretation, and/or assisting with delivery of special events and youth programming. The Technician will assist with day-to-day administrative operations such as opening/closing the Musuem, gift shop sales, etc. QUALIFICATIONS:Preferred areas of study include university/college history, anthropology/archaeology, museum studies, library/archival studies, or a related field. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate must be comfortable interacting with all segments of the public, including working with and supervising children and youth in an educational setting. Must have excellent research skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel required. Familiarity with social media platforms, museum/archival database software, and/or photography considered assets. Previous experience in a museum/heritage environment or with educational/interpretive programming considered an asset. Must be fluent in English, written and/or oral communication in French or another minority language considered an asset.
