Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum (NSM) holds a unique collection of more than 500 artefacts, ethnographic objects, art pieces, prints, and hundreds of photographs/slides which represent unique aspects of Inuit heritage, culture, and art.
The Manager/Curator has the authority for and shall be responsible for the planning, implementation, administration and development of the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum according to the approved policies and programs of the Board.
Reporting to the chair of the NSM, the Manger/Curator’s basic role is to manage the day-to-day operation of the museum. Various tasks include, but not limited to, managing exhibits and their installation, hiring and supervising staff, curating museum collections, developing and managing budgets and multi-faceted projects, managing the gift shop and buying art works, and delivery services to the local population. The position also requires maintaining strong relationships with community groups and various governmental bodies.
Educational Requirements: • College diploma or University degree in a discipline related to culture and heritage. • Or equivalent work experience and/or training (2 or 3 years) in culture or heritage fields.
Qualification Requirements: • Previous experience working with an organization with curatorial and/or museum practices • Strong organizational skills • Proven capacity to work with budget and time constraints • Strong interpersonal skills • Experience working with Inuit or Inuit art is an asset
