Artcite Inc. a non-profit, Artist-run centre with a 36 year history of interdisciplinary, contemporary art presentation in the Windsor-Detroit area, is seeking an Executive Director (ED).
In accordance with the policies set by the Board of Directors and voting artist members of the centre, the ED: - help establish programs and events to engage the community - day-to-day direction and management of Artcite - attends to all office correspondence and shares in general office work - preparation of grant applications - develops, forecasts, manages and balances the budget and maintains cashflow - manages audits for granting bodies and the government - manages payroll and benefits - coordinates the hiring and supervision of all staff and volunteers - sits on relative committees relative and attends all Board meetings - participates in the establishment and implementation of policies and mandate - prepares an Annual Report for presentation to the Annual General Meeting - acts as spokesperson for the gallery - assists with fundraising events
The staff and Board of Directors of Artcite Inc. are jointly responsible for: • recruiting new members and volunteers • caring for gallery assets • general maintenance of the gallery and offices • encouraging interest in the affairs of the gallery
The ED, the Programming Coordinator and part-time staff members are jointly responsible for: - ensuring that individual duties are carried out in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner, and in accordance with policies set by the Board and voting members of the organization - opening and directing mail, answering the telephone and referring messages - housekeeping (cleaning, removal of garbage, purchasing supplies, etc.) - expected that the duties of the ED will be carried out in a timely and efficient manner within constraints of the budget and policies of Artcite Inc., and that staff members, while having distinct areas of responsibility, will work cooperatively to accomplish day-to-day tasks, especially during periods of intense activity
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience - degree in visual arts, fine art, curating, museum studies, art history (with a concentration in contemporary art) or equivalent experience and a thorough knowledge and understanding of contemporary art practices and the guiding principles of Canadian artist-run culture - experience programming or working in a gallery or artist-run centre - experience facilitating events and coordinating with artists
Communication, Public Relations and Grants - strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate and work effectively with the public and community stakeholders - ability to represent the gallery in public and to granting bodies and community stakeholders, requiring strong oral and writing skills and experience with new media technologies - proven grant-writing abilities, which include demonstrated success in grant writing for various levels of government
General, Administrative and Interpersonal - self motivated, possess good organizational skills, and work in a safe and efficient manner - possess a demonstrated involvement or affiliation in a local arts community - knowledge and experience of Windsor and Region community - good timetabling skills, and the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment - flexible on work hours when grants are due and for other key events - an excellent team worker - demonstrated ability to work in a friendly and collaborative manner in a busy, small-office environment (or similar) - experience working in the non-profit sector, and managing volunteers an asset - proficiency in the French language (both oral and written) an asset - proficiency in various computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, web management and social media sites; knowledge of Mac-based platforms preferred
