Job Description:

Location: Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre
Reporting to: President and CEO
The National Music Centre (NMC) is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Director of Fund Development to lead
our fundraising activities locally, regionally, and nationally to help meet the strategic objectives of NMC. Joining us
at an exciting time in our growth and evolution, as NMC transitions from a capital campaign during our building
project into full operations, the Director of Development will be a crucial leader in strengthening and deepening our
supporters’ connection to the power of music. This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven fundraising
professional to increase and enhance transformational support for the home for music in Canada.
The Director of Fund Development will help chart NMC’s overall direction and strategy, and specifically lead a
balanced funding solicitation program tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable us to attract, retain
and motivate donors, sponsors, grantors and fundraising volunteers. Reporting directly to the President and CEO,
the Director of Development will be a member of NMC’s Leadership Team and will therefore play a lead role in the
NMC’s overall strategic planning. Additionally, the Director of Development will have frequent interaction and
collaboration with colleagues in Programming, Collections, Finance, Visitor Services, Operations, and Marketing
Departments, as well as with senior NMC volunteers.
The Director of Development’s key mandate is the oversight of fund development revenue streams, including major
and leadership gifts, annual and monthly giving through direct response campaigns, grants from both public and
private sources, and donor events such as NMC’s annual benefit auction. The Director of Fund Development will
manage their own portfolio of prospects and donors at various stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and
stewardship with a focus on major and leadership gifts over $25,000.
An inspiring and motivating leader with very good people skills, the Director of Development will lead the efforts of
three direct reports, including a Senior Development Officer, Annual Giving Officer, and a Stewardship/Events
administrative role. The Director of Development will bring an innovative and progressive approach to fundraising,
supporting our efforts to be innovative and entrepreneurial. The Director of Development will be curious and excited
by working within an organizational can-do culture that is nimble, a fast-paced, and passionate about music and
building community locally and beyond.
Fundraising for the National Music Centre
Through the past and current generosity and commitment of our donors, grantors and sponsors, we invest in music
related programs, in education, live-music, exhibitions and incubation/creation (ie. artist and new works
development) that together, celebrates and disseminates the power of music to strengthen the vibrancy, diversity,
resilience and success of our community and our country. Numerous donors, grantors and sponsors have allowed
us to invest more than $136M in the construction of Studio Bell and over $5M into our programs and services each
year.
