The Aurora Historical Society is seeking a Collections and Exhibitions Assistant to assist staff at Hillary House National Historic Site with our 2018 inventory and accessioning project and the installation of exhibits. This position will provide valuable experience for those considering a career in history, museum studies, collections, or archives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the curator with tasks relating to collections, collections management and exhibitions. Conduct artifact and archival cataloguing Complete database entry, Execute historical research using both primary and secondary sources Support the research and installation of museum exhibitions. Assist museum staff with other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled and returning to post-secondary studies in a related field, such as Education, History, Anthropology, Museology, or Canadian Studies Previous experience working with the public in a structured setting, in a paid and/or volunteer capacity Candidate must be between the ages of 15-29 and legally entitled to work in Canada Please note that Hillary House is open Thursday to Sunday, please be prepared to work weekends and some evenings Must possess or be willing to train for Standard 1st Aid & CPR Must possess or be willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sectors Screening Strong interpersonal skills Computer skills Able to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team setting
