Job Description:

Science World at TELUS World of Science, in Vancouver, provides children and families with access to cutting-edge, curriculum-linked galleries, films and hands-on educational programs. It also houses the OMNIMAX® Theatre, featuring one of the largest dome screens in the world. These activities inspire the development of inquisitive minds and foster a lifelong curiosity about science and technology, laying the groundwork for a thriving, knowledge-based economy in British Columbia. This year, Science World will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Since opening in 1989, Science World has served more than 18 million people, and attendance has increased annually.

A once-in-a-career opportunity has emerged and the ideal candidate for this senior leadership role is a high performing individual with deep experience in informal education and a proven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners. As a key member of the senior leadership reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President will oversee Science World’s talented programming team, which delivers a diverse array of programs both onsite at TELUS World of Science in Vancouver and throughout British Columbia. Science World has a bold new strategy focused on a single purpose: dramatically scaling literacy in STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art/design & Math). One of the foundational initiatives of this strategy is Symbiosis, a deeply collaborative, cross- sector, STEAM learning ecosystem for the province of BC, for which Science World is serving a backbone role.

To be considered for this role the selected candidate will have at least an
undergraduate degree, extensive experience working in an informal learning
setting (e.g., science centres, museums, aquariums, zoos, botanical gardens
or related institutions), and leadership experience overseeing teams of
science educators. Driven, humble and emotionally intelligent, the candidate
has a proven ability to be both tactical and strategic within a complex and
dynamic organization.
If you are ready to bring a passion for science learning and a proven ability to
deliver on a program mandate, then we want to hear from you. Please send
your resume and a detailed cover letter to George Madden and Shelina
Esmail at www.pfmsearch.com.
