The Ontario Museum Association (OMA) is a not-for-profit member organization with a mission to strengthen capacity among institutions and individuals active in Ontario’s museum sector, facilitate excellence and best practices, and improve the communication and collaboration of its membership. The Association advocates for the important role of Ontario’s museums to society, working with all stakeholders, related sectors and industries, and other professional organizations. The OMA is based in Toronto, but has a mandate to serve museums and museum workers in all parts of the province.
The OMA is seeking a Professional Development Assistant to support programs of the OMA that further our goal to strengthen skills, knowledge, innovation and excellence in museum work in Ontario. The Professional Development Assistant will support delivery of Certificate in Museum Studies courses, administration of the Awards of Excellence Program, and act as the primary OMA Conference contact for the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP), the Ontario Network of Regional Museum Networks and Conference volunteers.

This position provides an opportunity to work with several different programs and gain exposure to all aspects of the OMA’s daily operations. The Professional Development Assistant will have the opportunity to meet and network with professionals in the heritage sector across Ontario through interaction with members and program participants, committee members, partner organizations, volunteers, and other stakeholders. The position includes the opportunity to attend the OMA Annual Conference in October 2019 following the completion of the placement as well as a free one-year membership to the OMA.

Responsibilities
• Liaise with members of the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP) and the Ontario Network of Regional Museum Networks to inform the planning and implementation of activities at the Conference.
• Support and participate in Committee meetings.
• Support administration of the Awards of Excellence Program and award partnerships with Colleges.
• Recruit Conference volunteers and create orientation materials.
• Support the implementation of online and face-to-face Certificate in Museum Studies (CMS) courses.
• Assist with the creation of the OMA Annual Report by compiling photographs, statistics, and information pertaining to the activities and initiatives of the OMA.
Requirements
• Enrolled in a museum studies program or related field, with some knowledge and experience working with cultural organizations
• Strong computer skills, proficiency with graphic design and web-editing software
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work and perform effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced team environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Experience with program/event planning and delivery would be an asset
• French language comprehension would also be an assetApplication Procedure:
