Job Description:

 

Under the supervision of the Education Coordinator, the Education Programmer will conduct history-based school and daily hands-on programs, including youth workshops, summer day camp, group programs and tours. They will have the unique opportunity to organize, guide and participate in programming activities that include the demonstration of heritage crafts and activities, the performance of physical program set up, and the protection of site artifact resources. Through teamwork with other department staff and volunteers the Education Programmer will help execute the delivery of quality historical education/interpretation programming.

Hours/Days of Work:
•From May to August – 30-40 hours per week (Typically 5 days per week)
Term: Full-time Seasonal, Weekends and Holiday Mondays may be required

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Education/Summer Day Camp Responsibilities
a. Prepare and deliver on site, history based programming including: education programs, summer day camps, youth workshops, guided tours, and special education events;
b. Organize, lead and participate in programming activities, including heritage crafts and food programs;
c. Perform physical daily programming set up and clean up;
d. Perform physical daily summer day camp and workshop programming set up and clean up;
e. Ensure the safety of all participants, including school, camp, and workshop program participants;
f. Assist with building and site cleaning and program maintenance in program areas;
g. Ability to work in both an independent and team environment;
h. Maintain a high level of customer service.

Qualifications:
• Current student of education, history, museum studies or related program
• Prior experience in a museum or living history setting an asset
• Experience working with children
• Excellent communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent customer service skills and strong organizational abilities
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Good working knowledge of the Ontario curriculum
• Perform physical tasks associated with the position
• Ability to work weekends and holidays
• Ability to wear historical costumes and adhere to guidelines with respect to jewellery, make-up and other forms of personal adornment required
• Knowledge of 19th century Canadian and south-western Ontario history an asset
• Training and experience in heritage crafts or trades, as well as wood stove cooking and food ways an asset
• Fluency in French an asset
• Valid first aid and CPR certificates an asset
• Must have own transportation (No public transportation available to site.)
• Must be able to provide a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening
