Job Description

“Working in partnership with museums, communities and supporters, the mandate of the Association of Nova Scotia Museums is to:
•    Encourage the development of professional best practices in Nova Scotia’s museums.
•    Educate Nova Scotians about the value of museums and Nova Scotian stories
•    Act as a champion on behalf of museums in Nova Scotia
•    Engage in activities with provincial, national and international partners that further ANSM’s     aims and benefit the museum sector as a whole.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Member Services Co-ordinator provides membership service in four key areas of ANSM activity. They maintain the Advisory Service program and support training, membership and communications activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

ADVISORY SERVICE:

ANSM provides an advisory service to member organizations, which includes the use of CollectiveAccess, technical and collections management support, training, in person/remote assistance and site visits. The service also provides management for NovaMuse.ca and the associated NovaMuseEd teacher resource centre. 

The Member Services Coordinator will:
•    Liaise with ANSM’s Advisory Service member museums and respond to queries in a timely manner, using multiple communication platforms.  
•    Conduct site visits (in person & virtual) to member museums to provide updates, training and ascertain needs. This includes scheduling visits, making economical travel arrangements and carrying out post-visit follow-up.
•    Develop, deliver, and/or facilitate MAP grant project-related activities, such as hub training sessions, data enrichment and digitization initiatives, CA and NM upgrades, and evaluation of same. 
•    Monitor CollectiveAccess and NovaMuse on an ongoing basis, responding to issues as required.

TRAINING

The Member Services Coordinator will:
•    Maintain the Museum Studies Program by carrying out scheduling, logistics, engaging with presenters, and managing the registration process.
•    Support special training opportunities (in person & virtual) by carrying out scheduling, logistics, engaging with presenters, and managing the registration process.
•    Support annual conference/symposium events either as standalone or partnership initiatives by assisting with logistics and program development.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MEMBER SERVICES

The Member Services Coordinator will:
•    Manage ANSM social media accounts and contribute occasional guest blog posts.
•    Maintain website information in a current and accurate manner.
•    Research, edit and circulate ANSM’s Beacon e-newsletter, and maintain the newsletter subscription list.
•    Assist with mail outs, office management, and general inquiries.
•    Ensure that the membership database is always up-to-date and prepare/process member mail outs and renewals.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, skills and abilities:

EDUCATION
The Member Services Co-ordinator will have a degree/diploma in a museum-related field (museum studies program, history, fine art, classics) or an appropriate combination of work experience and education. 

EXPERIENCE
Proficiency with collections management systems is required, experience with CollectiveAccess is preferred. Proficiency in artefact digitization and digital photography. 
Experience with information technology support services (server management, backup systems). Experience working in a museum and conducting collections-related research. Experience with website management and social media platforms. Experience developing and delivering training and/or educational programming. The ability to communicate in English is required and a working knowledge of French is preferred. 
Proficiency in the use of computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel), 
collections database systems, image and video editing software.
Proficiency in the use of office equipment: Computer, printer, photocopier, digital camera, scanner
A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include ability to work in seated position for periods of time and lift weights of up to 20 lbs.
Employment is subject to availability of funds from ANSM operational and program funding.
