Collection Assistant

The Montreal Holocaust Museum, through its museum, commemoration events and educational initiatives informs and sensitizes people of all ages and all backgrounds about the Holocaust, as well as antisemitism, racism, hatred and indifference. The Museum promotes our collective responsibility in the respect of diversity.

The Museum is looking to hire a student for a summer contract for the position of Collection Assistant. The person will work on the digitization, cataloguing and proper storing of artifacts, documents and photographs in the Montreal Holocaust Museum collection, and contribute to the reorganization of the Museum’s collection storage.

Job Description
- Digitizing artefacts and photographs according to conservation standards (scanning, photographing)
- Documenting artefacts and photographs
- Transferring records to an online catalogue
- Assisting the Head of Collections and Exhibitions and the Registrar with acquisitions
- Draft a proposal to reorganise the collection storage.

Required Qualifications
- The applicant must be bilingual (advanced writing skills in French and English)
- The applicant must be a returning student and studying Museology, Archival Studies or another related field
- The applicant must possess great computer skills. Experience with File Maker database and Photoshop is an asset
- The candidate must have a highly developed sense of organization and professional ethics
- The candidate must be resourceful, the ability to prioritize and to work within a team.

This posting is for a twelve-week contract. The hourly wage is $15.00. In keeping with the standards of « Young Canada Works, » the candidate must be a Canadian citizen, authorized to work in Canada, between the ages of 15 to 30 with plans to return to full-time studies in the upcoming school year.
