Are you passionate about the history of the Fraser River Valley? Are you familiar with the indigenous, farming, logging, and recreational communities within the Agassiz-Harrison Valley? Do you enjoy working with the public, object, and archival collections? Then consider joining the Agassiz-Harrison Museum and Visitor Information Centre (http://agassizharrisonmuseum.org/), located in the heart of downtown Agassiz. The members and volunteers of the Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society have been preserving and sharing the stories of the District of Kent and the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for four decades.

Are you familiar with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Epson, and Cannon software? Are you dedicated, hardworking, detail oriented and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs? Can you work as part of a small, effective team and independently? Do you want to make a big difference to our unique community?

We are looking for a Curatorial Assistant to conduct archival and object collection care, organization, re-housing, digitization, and inventory tasks over a period of 16 weeks. Candidates should either be nearing completion of their high-school diploma or pursuing post-secondary studies in the fields of history, anthropology, archaeology, library/archival science, cultural resource management, or sociology. We will provide you with training in current museum standards and best practices, such as: artifact handling, object condition reporting, photography and digitization, and collection and digital file organization.


This is a 16 week position, pending funding from the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations program.

Eligibility criteria include:

-Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
-are legally entitled to work in Canada;
-will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
-are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
-will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;
-have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
-intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
