Job Description

Job Description: Curatorial Assistant
Scope:  The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame is adding a Curatorial Assistant position through the Youth Canada Works grant to the team. This position is responsible for assisting the Curator in all aspects of our collection. The Curatorial Assistant will work with the Curator to catalogue and perform research on collection objects and archives, and rehouse objects in the collection. They will also assist with updating existing museum records by adding images and reviewing accuracy, and digitizing archival materials. The right player will have relevant museum experience, computer proficiency, exceptional organizational and communication skills and a passion for community service.
Reporting to:  Curator
Responsibilities:
Work on specified projects, under supervision, such as care of collections, historic research, and digitization
Archives
     Assist in digitization project of archival records and photographs
     Inventory existing un-catalogued archival material
     Accession, arrange, and describe archival collections under supervision of Curator
     Assist with requests from external researchers
Collections
     Catalogue and process artifacts using spreadsheets and the museum database
     Assist with photography of museum artifacts and editing of images
     Rehouse artifacts in collections storage
     Perform research and update relevant information to the database entries
     Monitor museum environmental conditions
     Other duties as required
Qualifications:
-Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and organizational skills
-Computer proficiency, including with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing
-Knowledge of Past Perfect, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop or other image editing software, digital cameras, and scanners
-Knowledge of archival principles, practices, and Rules for Archival Description (RAD) is an asset
-Previous experience in a museum or archives setting preferred
-Demonstrated passion for community service
Education: Post-secondary education with an emphasis on museum studies, archives, or another related field is preferred.
Terms of Employment:
-The selected applicant must be able to meet the specific YCW grant requirements:
-must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
-between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
-have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the work assignment; and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment
-The position is for a maximum of 560 hours. All hours must be completed prior to March 31, 2021
-Flexible schedule
 Rate of Pay:  $14.75/hour
