Job Description

THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF WOODSTOCK

Art Gallery – REGISTRAR / HEAD OF COLLECTIONS
Qualifications:
To be considered, applicants must possess the following qualifications:
•A minimum of a B.A. degree in fine arts, art history, museum studies or related field; a M.A. is preferred.
•3 to 5 years museum experience in managing fine art collections and gallery exhibitions
•Knowledge of computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office, and Collections Management Databases.
•Valid driver’s license an asset.
•Knowledge of current practices in the proper handling of art works.
•Thorough knowledge of contemporary and historical art locally, nationally and internationally.
•Ability to do scholarly research.
•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with respect to historical and contemporary artwork forpublic presentations, project proposals, grant submissions, publications and other printed or electronic materials.
•Ability to write art gallery quality text.
•Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, artists, culturalprofessionals, volunteers, donors and the public.
•Highly developed organizational skills with good attention to detail.
•Ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.
•Ability to use diplomacy with artwork donors in situation of refusal.
•May be required to use own vehicle to move or transport artifacts.
Duties:
Collections Management including:
1.Acquisitions
2.Cataloguing
3.Collections Administration
4.Conservation
Exhibitions Management including:
1.Exhibition Planning and Development
2.Exhibition Coordination
3.Facility/Gallery Operations
Working Conditions:
Evening and weekend work may be required. Hours worked as scheduled by Director/Curator. Heavy lifting and climbing ladders to access art works and artifacts. Working in contact with conservation equipment, contact with fur, feathers, textiles and chemicals when necessary. Nature of work results in frequent interruption. Will be expected to staff the front desk during staff lunches, vacations or illness. In this capacity will interact with the public, orient visitors, answer questions, register participants for programs and represent the Gallery to the public.
