Job Description

The Kamloops Art Gallery is seeking an enthusiastic student to prepare for and offer Summer Art Camps for children.
The ideal candidate is pursuing or has recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts and/or Education degree. They must have a willingness to learn, a passion for teaching and art, excellent verbal communications skills and enjoy working with children. Strong organizational and computer skills (specifically Microsoft programs) are an asset.
Applicants must be a student between 16 and 30 years of age; have been registered as a full-time post-secondary student in the 2019/2020 academic year; intend to return to school on a full-time basis for the 2020/2021 academic year; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have Canadian refugee status; be legally entitled to work in Canada; be registered with the Young Canada Works online candidate inventory (https://young-canada-works.canada.ca); and be willing to commit to the full duration of the 12-week work term.
Principle Responsibility: The Summer Art Instructor will work with the School Programs Coordinator and the Education and Public Programs Director towards the planning, promotion, preparation and delivery of the Gallery’s virtual and face-to-face summer programs for children aged 5 to 12.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
In collaboration with the School Programs Coordinator, research the summer exhibitions and works from the KAG collection to assist with the development of lesson plans for children’s summer programs
Order supplies and prepare materials kits for camp participants 
Administer delivery or curbside pickup of kits for participants in virtual programs
Teach and administer studio workshops in outdoor settings 
Develop and record virtual studio programming for children
Stay abreast of changing federal, provincial and municipal guidelines for in-person programming and adjust programs as necessary 
Capture quality photo documentation of camps in-progress and of completed art works
Work with the Education and Public Programs Director and Virtual Engagement Assistant to develop a virtual exhibition of art works created by summer camp participants
Ensure the safety and security of all program participants 
Provide participants with an educational and enjoyable art experience
Maintain overall cleanliness, tidiness and ongoing inventory of studio and materials
Reporting to the Education and Public Programs Director, the Instructor will evaluate and update the library collections, and assist with the implementation of a new cataloguing system.
Qualifications
Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Fine Arts or related field of study would be considered an asset.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to align work activities with pre-determined schedules.
Interest in contemporary and historical art.
Experience working or learning cross-culturally.
Experience with digital video and photography an asset.
English/French bilingualism an asset.
