The McCord Museum is recruiting 2-Day Camp Counselors

For the last several years, the McCord has offered a perfect mix of history and fun with its day camp. The Museum presents two themes inspired by the richness of its collections and in line with current exhibitions, for 2020, the themes are: Laughing together and The beauty in me.

The Education Department wishes to hire two (2) students who know how to enthusiastically and interestingly communicate the presented themes to the young campers in order to offer them an exciting discovery of the Museum and its exhibitions in a bilingual environment.
They will have to ensure the safety and supervision of children during the course of the day camp and daycare to ensure quality customer service.

Reporting to the Head, Education, Community Engagement and Cultural Programs, the Counselors will have the following responsibilities:
• Welcoming young people; communicate relevant and correct information in an appropriate and respectful language
• Animate scenarios visits and workshops;
• Accompany groups during outings and exterior activities;
• Supervise participants safely throughout the camp (dinners, outings, daycare, etc.);
• Prepare the facilities and equipment (activity room, art material, educational materials, etc.) for children (this includes light cleaning tasks);
• Contribute to the development of the activities and their contents.

Employment Conditions :
• Temporary summer student employment; 35 hours per week, for 10 weeks;
• Compensation of $17,50 per hour; employment starting in June (starting date will be confirmed);
• Candidates must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works programs for heritage establishments.

Qualifications and Profile Required:
• University degree in relevant field (history, art, archeology, museology, education) or current enrolment in a related university degree program;
• One-year relevant experience or working with groups in a different environment;
• First-aid certification or willingness to follow training;
• Dynamism, sense of responsibility, resourcefulness and creativity;
• Effective communication, including ability to make content accessible to different public;
• Fluency in both English and French;
• Polished appearance and professional and respectful attitude;
• Good historical knowledge of Montreal, Quebec and Canada;
• An inclination for art could be an asset.
