Job Description

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.

We are looking for a Director of Education to join our leadership team, who would oversee the Education Department, and lead a team of educators.
Responsibilities:
• End-to-end responsibility for all educational programs: development, delivery, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
• Develops innovative educational programs that provide meaningful, authentic learning opportunities to confront hatred and intolerance for elementary and high school students, educators and law enforcement.
• Develops curriculum and implements programs and workshops based on the Equity & Inclusivity Strategy to meet Ontario Ministry of Education expectations. These programs will teach about historical events while making real-world, contemporary connections and empowering youth to create positive change in their homes, schools and communities.
• Ensures that all curriculum meets Ministry standards.
• Leads all curriculum related aspects through various processes including new program development and program review.
• Builds support networks of stake holders with boards of education, educators, speakers, donors and community influencers.
• Maintains currency in the field of curriculum development, teaching and learning theory, and educational technology, and shares expertise and new knowledge with the Education Department.
• Responsible for grant writing.
• Develops and facilitates training for employees to foster continuous learning and promote internal growth.
• Supports the implementation of special projects, educational pilots and organization-wide program improvements.
• Manages all aspects of a project as the main point of contact with contractors and subject matter experts.
• Works with the instructional leadership teams, principals, teachers and other educational administrators in providing strategic direction.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
• A deep understanding of the Holocaust, Antisemitism, Jewish history, the State of Israel and human rights activism.
• Demonstrated skills in negotiating complex educational, training and service contracts with public, private and community organizations and developing business plans.
• Ability to write, plan and execute curriculum.
• Superior relationship-building and communication skills ensuring the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
• Knowledge of the contract education and services environment as usually evidenced by having programmed and delivered educational services in the public, private and community setting
• Excellent attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and direct staff
• Top presentation skills, maturity and comfort speaking in front of audiences, educating and presenting.
• Superior ability to bring technology into educational mediums.

Requirements & Qualifications:
• 10+ years’ progressive and successful management experience in a range of senior level administrative positions with directly relevant experience in the development, delivery, management, and administration of training and consulting products and services
• 5+ years’ relevant experience in curriculum design
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design and/or Educational Technology
• A valid teaching certificate and good standing with the College of Teachers
• Additional certification(s) in Holocaust Education is an asset
• Experience in grant writing is an asset
• Ability to travel across the province or country
