Job Description

The Rooms is one of Canada's leading cultural institutions. Its mandate is to care for the collections of its legacy organizations - The Provincial Museum, Regional Museums, The Art Gallery and Archives. The mandate also includes growing and bringing these collections to life for the citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout Canada. Since the opening of The Rooms in 2005, the organization has established award winning permanent galleries, mounted national traveling exhibitions, raised significant funds, and established a supportive and growing membership in the community and across the country. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking qualified candidates to lead The Rooms through its development as one of Canada's pre-eminent cultural institutions and to secure its financial future for decades to come.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is accountable for the effective development and direction of all matters relating to The Rooms. This includes overseeing the development, implementation, and review of strategic plans, programs and policies, as well as, the effective management of the Corporation's human and fiscal resources. The CEO is responsible for leading the corporate and private donor relations program. The CEO will represent The Rooms at public functions and will establish and maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders in the community, including arts and heritage organizations and Indigenous groups. The Rooms is looking for a leader with a broad and comprehensive knowledge of the many cultural resource disciplines. As well, a demonstrated track record of fund development is required.

The CEO must demonstrate strategic vision and planning with experience in leading sound fiscal management. Effective decision making, change management, collaboration and communication skills are required. Knowledge of public administration would be an asset. Qualifications for this position would normally be acquired through completion of graduate level education in business, fine arts, museum studies or arts administration combined with considerable years of relevant progressively responsible experience in senior arts management or related experience. Equivalencies will be considered.
