Job Description
The Reach is seeking mature, motivated candidates who have an interest in education, particularly in the art gallery and/or museum setting, for the position of Cultural Programs Assistant. During the 14 week work-term, Cultural Programs Assistants will gain practical, hands-on experience in several areas of museum and gallery operations, with a focus on public and educational programming and community cultural development. The hourly rate for this position is $15.50 plus 4% vacation pay.
Under the supervision of the Curator of Learning and Community Engagement, the Cultural Programs Assistants will support field trip activity, design and deliver daily summer art and heritage camps for children and youth, and participate in a wide range of outreach activities around the community, acting as ambassadors to The Reach at festivals and events.
The ideal candidates are returning post-secondary students at the undergraduate or graduate level studying education, visual art, art history, museum studies, history, cultural studies, or a field related to culture and heritage. Experience working with children and youth and/or developing programs or lesson plans is favourable. Familiarity with contemporary art is not necessary but is considered an asset. The candidates will have a moderate knowledge of program and event coordination, good administrative and time management skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be comfortable working with the public and must be capable of working effectively independently or as part of a team. Candidates must have a valid criminal record check and driver’s license.
The Reach is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from candidates who are Indigenous, visible minorities, persons who are differently-abled, or new Canadians.
