Salary

Pay Grade 18 - $24.14 per hour plus a percentage in lieu of all benefits. HOURS: Hours of work will vary and some weekend and evening hours may be required.

Job Description

Reporting to the Audio-Visual Technician III, the AV Production Assistant performs specialized creative and technical work in the production of digital media assets for use in the Gallery’s exhibitions, programming and communications.

Under direction of the AV Production Lead, the AV Production Assistant undertakes the following responsibilities:
- performing technical and creative production work including:
- video camera operation, shot composition and sequencing, lighting, audio recording
- performing technical and creative post-production work including:
- storyboarding, video and audio editing, colour correction, audio processing, graphics and titling
- procuring and organizing content assets
- maintaining an organized digital workflow, file systems and archive
- procuring, operating and maintaining production equipment
- using a variety of media and presentation software to produce high quality digital assets

In addition to the responsibilities specific to digital media production, the Production Assistant provides departmental support in the following areas:
- formatting media files for exhibition, event presentation, web-delivery and archive

As the AV Production Assistant, you will work closely with those individuals directing productions and overseeing events, programs or exhibitions to create media content and documentation. You will contribute creative solutions and technical expertise to productions that enhances the Gallery’s programs, communications and brand. Maintaining knowledge of current trends and advances in related technologies is required.

The work includes digital video and audio equipment operation, knowledge of digital workflows and file management, timeline scheduling, communication and reporting. Some heavy lifting may be required. The incumbent must be able to work in a safe and responsible manner, both individually and as part of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of the twelfth school grade supplemented by technical courses in digital media production plus three years of experience working in the audio-visual field.

Experience and knowledge of the following equipment and systems:
SOFTWARE: Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically: Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Illustrator; as well as Keynote and MS Office

HARDWARE: professional video camera operation; lensing; lighting and rigging systems; digital audio recorders and a range of microphones

Demonstrate ability to operate a variety of professional video cameras and equipment. Possess an excellent knowledge of contemporary video editing, sound editing and graphic software. Familiarity with 2D and 3D design applications is an asset. Maintain excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a professional and friendly manner. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high attention to detail, effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
