Weekend Guest Services Representative

The purpose of this position is to ensure all of our guests have the best experience possible and leave feeling inspired by dreams of flight.



Reports to: Guest Services and Marketing Manager

Hours of work: casual work on weekends from 0900-1630, no more than 600 hours per year

Responsibilities of this position include:

•Completing (and/or assisting volunteers with) short tours for birthday party guests
•Providing interpretative knowledge about our exhibits to visitors
•Completing (and/or assisting volunteers with) educational tours for youth
•Opening and closing of the museum
•Completion of admissions and gift shop sales
•Assisting museum visitors to ensure their experience is better than they could expect (includes answering questions about our collections and assisting out of town visitors with questions about Calgary’s tourism options)
•Securing of funds at the close of business
•Assisting meeting groups and facility rentals, ensuring the room is setup to their satisfaction
•Ensuring all areas of the museum are operational, clean and safe for the public (washrooms, public areas, meeting rooms, etc.)
•Cleaning sidewalks free of snow and ice during the winter months if required
•Supervision of volunteers
•Stocking gift shop shelves
•Dusting gift shop shelves and display units
•Answering the telephone and providing information
•Other duties as assigned


Skills required:

•The ability to operate the WASP till system and balance daily receipts
•The ability to work well with others and supervise volunteers as required
•The ability to communicate museum objectives and vision with museum guests
•Excellent verbal communication skills
•Must demonstrate initiative within scope of duty
•Ability to handle situations as they occur
•Current first aid certification considered an asset


Other requirements:

•Must be presentable and well mannered
•High school graduate
•Interest in aviation is considered an asset
•2+ years of experience in interpretation and retail considered an asset
