The Collections Management and Conservation Division is responsible for the physical care, preservation and accessibility of the Museum’s artifact collections, as well as collection loans held in trust for program delivery. The CMH National Collection consists of more than four million artifacts, specimens, works of art, written documents, and sound and visual recordings.

The ideal candidate will be able to undertake the handling, movement, packing, storage and location control of CMH collections, with special focus on those pertaining to Indigenous people in Canada, for the purposes of research, preservation, and outreach within CMH and other facilities.

Required profile

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in:
•Working with collections in a museum, gallery or cultural centre;
•Handling, tracking, packing and transportation of collections;
•Collection acquisitions, loans and exhibition processes and procedures;
•Interacting with multi-disciplinary staff and delivering services to internal and external clients;
•Working effectively independently and within a project-oriented team environment;
•Working on several projects simultaneously, assessing and organizing work to meet conflicting priorities.

Knowledge of:
•General museology and collection management policies, principles and practices;
•Various computer application software including MS Office Suite and collections management database software;
•Workplace safety rules and regulations;
•CMH mandate, collections, programs and services.

Other conditions
•Ability to qualify for and obtain a Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL);
•Ability to employ personal protective equipment (PPE);
•Ability to lift up to 15 kg.

Assets
•Experience working with indigenous collections in museums, including outreach and the provision of client services to Indigenous communities and organizations;
•Experience operating a variety of hand-held power tools, including lifting and loading equipment (scissor lift, boom lift);
•Ability to qualify for and obtain a Drivers license (Class A) and travel for work.

Education
•Post secondary museum studies program (Diploma, Degree or Graduate Certificate) OR an accredited apprenticeship program OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation: $48,199 - $62,326
