Salary:

 

$21.80 to $27.58 per hour (WDM Level 6, Ranges TR-6). 72 hours per 2-week pay period.

 
 

Job Description:

 

Reporting to the Collections Manager, the Curatorial Assistant assists the WDM in achieving its public trust responsibilities through the care and stewardship of the WDM collections. The Curatorial Assistant maintains collection standards and oversees documentation. The Curatorial Assistant helps ensure the WDM collections meet the Museum’s mandate and supports its vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Collections Management
• Follow all policies, procedures and guidelines pertaining to the collection.
• Create and maintain collection documentation, this may include cataloguing, accession, deaccession, condition, and location records.
• Conduct research to support acquisitions, to update existing collection records, and support collection management decision-making.
• Place artifacts in storage and retrieve artifacts from storage to meet exhibit, program and loan requirements.
• Ensure the collections database is managed in accordance with privacy legislation and protection of electronic data.
• Assist with collections development and documentation throughout the WDM system.

Administration
• Correspond with donors, arrange delivery and/or return of objects, and ensure donation documents are complete and accurate.
• Process incoming and outgoing loan requests and ensure condition reports and locations records are current.
• Arrange artifact appraisals and preparation of tax receipts when required.
• Maintain compliance with local and international legislation (e.g. Privacy, Copyright, Cultural Property, Occupational Health and Safety) and museum standards.
• Maintain familiarity, through reading and professional interaction, on collection management practices, issues and innovations.
• Other Museum-related duties as assigned by the Curator and/or Collections Manager.

Communication
• Respond to public inquiries and research requests concerning the WDM collections as requested by the Collections Manager.
• Share collections knowledge internally and externally (e.g. through blogs, programs, publications, conferences, etc.).
• Participate in outreach initiatives (e.g., presentations, tours, conference papers).
