Job Description:

 

The student researcher will assist the City of Welland Heritage Advisory Committee with assessment of properties in the City with potential cultural heritage value or significance.The candidate will conduct a survey of all properties in the municipality using online and on site assessments, photographs and basic historical research to determine those that have possible heritage significance and use this to create a database of "Properties of Interest" that will help guide the Committee in selecting properties for further research and possible designation under the Ontario Heritage Act.

This position will be of interest to post secondary students whose studies fall into one of the following areas: cultural heritage management, history, urban and regional planning, art history, museum studies, or municipal management. The candidate should be proficient in computer programmes WORD, Excel and Outlook and have some experience and skill in photography. The candidate must have an advanced knowledge of spoken and written English and should have a basic reading knowledge of French. Ideally, the candidate will have a valid driver's licence and use of their own vehicle, however public transportation is available.

The student will need to present proof that they meet all YCW eligibility requirements.

Welland is a city of 50,000 centrally located in the Niagara Region with a culturally diverse population and one of the largest percentages of French speaking residents in southern Ontario.
