The John and Maggie Mitchell Art Gallery (MAG) is MacEwan University’s public art gallery with a vision to engage timely conversations and community through contemporary art. The MAG serves the university community and the public through supporting interdisciplinary, experiential learning through exhibitions, programs, and publications that feature diverse artistic and curatorial perspectives committed to critical discourses in contemporary art. The MAG supports opportunities for students to develop academic, hands-on, and leadership skills to support their futures as artists, cultural workers, and lifelong critical thinkers.

Opportunity

The Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications (FFAC) of MacEwan University is recruiting for the full-time continuing position of Community Liaison at the MAG. Reporting to the Art Gallery Director, the Community Liaison is responsible for supporting the MAG’s public programming and outreach with all the communities it serves. This position will appeal to an individual who is passionate about cultivating community through contemporary art; can build, grow and maintain relationships with community and stakeholders; has strong written and verbal communication skills; is exceptionally self-motivated, and has excellent time management and prioritization skills. Responsibilities of this position will include coordinating the planning, execution and evaluation of gallery public programs; supporting grant writing, reporting and other development work; coordinating volunteers and assisting with their training; building local and national awareness of gallery programming; and developing engaging and informative content for gallery social media accounts, newsletter and website.

Skills

The successful candidate must be service-oriented and have proven critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills. The Community Liaison must be capable of taking initiative and undertaking self-directed projects as well as able to work collaboratively. This position requires a broad skill set of administrative, event planning, public speaking, and writing abilities. The position also requires the ability to coordinate a volunteer team and support their hands-on learning. The Community Liaison must have the ability to successfully communicate to different kinds of art audiences in person and across multiple digital platforms.

Qualifications

This position requires an individual with at minimum a diploma in visual arts, art history or related disciplines; 2-5 years of experience in assisting with the planning and delivery of cultural programming (such as tours, workshops, lectures, and/or performances) and demonstrated ability in the use of computer technology and software (Microsoft Office and G suite). Some equivalencies may be considered.
