Job Description:

 

The Art Gallery of Alberta is the oldest cultural institution in Alberta and the province's only solely dedicated art museum. Located in the City of Edmonton, the AGA serves the local community, the province of Alberta and plays a significant role in the cultural life of Western Canada. The AGA maintains a collection of over 6,000 works of art and presents an annual series of temporary and collection-based exhibitions with related educational, public and outreach programs.

The Poole Centre of Design (PCD) is an integrated series of programs organized and presented by the Art Gallery of Alberta. PCD programs seek to generate new ideas and discussion about contemporary issues in design. From education programs to workshops, exhibitions and symposia, the Poole Centre of Design provides opportunities for people of all ages to explore design ideas.

Reporting through the Head of Exhibitions and Collections Management and working with the Executive Director / Chief Curator, the Adjunct Curator, Poole Centre of Design, will develop and implement programming and exhibition activities that foster the impact of the Poole Centre of Design in Edmonton and across Canada. The Adjunct Curator will work with AGA teams to highlight areas for potential design-related programming, promotions and interpretation for new and within current AGA activities and facilitate other design related public programming, in Edmonton and throughout Alberta.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a graduate level degree in the Visual Art or Design History, Theory or Practice and 3-5 years work experience in a museum or public art gallery context. Candidates should have a broad understanding of contemporary design practice theory and practice. Candidates will have experience working on exhibition development, excellent organizational and research skills, an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and the ability to work under direction and in a team environment.

This is a part-time, adjunct position that does not have a residency requirement in Edmonton.
