Summary of Duties: Reporting to the Education and Interpretation Officer (Programs), the Farm Camp Leader performs camp leader duties in the summer day camp program by assisting in camp program development , camp counsellor training, delivery of camp program and other camp duties; delivers school programs and other programs; greets, welcomes and provides visitors with information and explanation concerning the Museum's animals, barns, exhibits, and agriculture and agricultural history; and performs other related duties. Education and Experience: As an ideal candidate, you have completed at least one (1) year of university or college or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
You also have experience in the following areas: - previous interpretation, education or theatrical experience in museums, parks, tourism, schools and /or related fields is required; - experience working with children; - farm experience and large animal handling experience is an asset; - experience at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is also an asset.
RATED REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge: - of agriculture, agricultural history, food science; - of learning theories and interpretive techniques; - of the mandate and the organization of the Canada Museum of Science and Technology Corporation.
Abilities: - deliver dynamic interpretive and educational programs; - simplify complex information about agriculture and to communicate it to diverse audiences; - work under pressure; - work effectively in a team situation; - communicate both orally and in writing in both official languages; - effectively represent the Corporation in a professional manner.
Personal Suitability: - must be empathetic to the needs of visitors - excellent communication skills - a high degree of initiative and judgement - flexibility - works well without supervision - creative problem solver - works well with both children and adults - effective team player
