The Acadia University Art Gallery seeks one candidate for the role of Exhibition & Outreach Assistant. The position focuses on two exciting opportunities to work directly with the curator in the research and delivery of programs in the gallery. First, they will assist with the development and delivery of outreach programs (such as weekly hands-on art activities and exhibition tours) related to our summer exhibition. Second, they will work on research and organization of a grouping of historic Nova Scotia prints.
This opportunity will allow the student to gain experience in the rich and varied fields of art, public history, museums, arts education and arts administration. Established in 1978, the Acadia University Art Gallery is the only professionally curated gallery in the Annapolis Valley, NS.
The position runs from May 22 - August 18, 2019 Hours of work will be 7hrs a day from Wednesday – Sunday, 35hrs a week at 11.55$/hrly Language of Work is English
Candidate Profile -A university student with at least one course in Art History or related field -An ability to work with images and different sources of information -Self-motivated, high level of organization, responsible -Proficiency with computers and other digital media (Mac preferred) -A student that is interested in pursuing a career in art, public history, museum studies, arts education or arts administration - Understanding of the French language is desirable (but not required)

Characteristics of City/Region: The Acadia University Art Gallery is located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. It is the only public art gallery in the Annapolis Valley. This area has access to world class restaurants, wineries, cultural sites and natural beauty. It is less than 1hr from the international airport in Halifax. Each summer the town experiences an influx of travelers who come for the well-respected art, music and theatre programs.
