Position Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular part-time Recreation Attendant II to join our team of professionals in the Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives Division; at the Langley Centennial Museum in Fort Langley British Columbia.

Summary of Duties Reporting to the Director of Arts, Culture, and Community Initiatives, you will be responsible in this unionized position for providing excellent customer service, and performing public contact and clerical work of a lead hand nature. An employee of this class assigns, reviews, leads, and participates in the work of a small group of subordinates in various locations, scheduling staff and providing training as required. This position also performs clerical and routine typing tasks; operates a point of sale system in the Museum Gift Shop and standard office equipment; receives, records and reconciles payments received from patrons for registrations, rentals, licenses or tax payments and issues tickets, receipts, or contracts as required; prepares daily revenue report and deposit slips; opens or closes the facility during regularly scheduled shifts, controls entrance to same; performs minor custodial and set-up duties and routine patrol as required; ensures observance of standards of public conduct; in absence of a superior may assume responsibility for security of the facility.

Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, under the general supervision of a superior who evaluates performance on the basis of accuracy and efficiency of work and services rendered to the patrons. It is essential that the ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, is energetic and enthusiastic, is well organized plus is able to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of internal and external contacts. The candidate must be able to assign, review, lead and participate in the work of a group of subordinates, and to provide staff training as required. The candidate must also possess the ability to perform limited custodial and patrol duties as required.

Required Qualifications The successful candidate has Grade 12, and sound related experience dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will also have experience leading and training a group of subordinates. Candidates must have the ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public under varying conditions, in person, by telephone or email, the ability to receive money and issue change accurately and promptly, and the ability to maintain clerical records related to the work. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required, and experience with CLASS and/or other programming and booking software and Tempest software would be a strong asset. Some retail experience would also be an asset.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a police information check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

Compensation & Benefits Overview The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $24.36 -$28.55 per hour (5 steps 2019 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 11:30am – 5:00pm; Saturday 11:00am – 5:00pm; non-standard hours, and or non-standard work week.
