Job Description:

Our Honouring Our Local Veterans is an annual exhibit and program, and the students will interview Veterans and collect their information. Past students have found this very rewarding as many of these Veterans are just now willing to tell their stories in order for future generations to learn about our Canadian Heritage concerning the Second World War and the Korea War. This is a very valuable program at our Museum, in our community, and for our heritage.
Create the photographic, artefact, text, and related data of the three new exhibits opening in 2019 as useable content for our social media, touch-screen modules, and digital content for outreach kits.
Enhance parts of our permanent exhibits to ensure new information and/or artefacts are included to help receive repeat visitors. The students, along with the Curator, will enhance one display case with new artefacts and information that keeps within the overall theme of the exhibit. Learn to use our PastPerfect database program to search for new artefacts for this exhibit.
In May 2019, we will be opening two new exhibits. One is on the Polish Soldiers that were stationed in Owen Sound during the Second World War and the other is a tribute to the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. The students will be assisting the Curator to install these exhibits and help create one or two educational modules or materials. These exhibits will be upstairs in the Museum and not accessible to individuals who cannot climb the stairs. The students will create either a binder or a PowerPoint presentation to allow these individuals to see these exhibits, as well as other upstairs exhibits as required.
Organize, market, and deliver a one-week summer camp. Students will be able to demonstrate a variety of skills throughout the various stages of research, development, and hands-on activities of this program.
Incorporate “edutainment” in the form of a plausible fictional character to be ‘performed’ during tours and special events as a playful means to engage Museum visitors and allow them to connect to what life was like when Billy Bishop lived in his boyhood home from 1894 to 1911.
Assist the Curator in ensuring artefacts are registered, accessioned and stored properly in the Museum. This will make the artefacts easily accessible for new exhibits.
Organize, market and implement Victorian Teas and Luncheons, once in June, twice in July and twice in August. These popular programs bring around 40 adults, youth and seniors per event to partake in a Victorian tradition. Students will be using a variety of skills to implement, market, and deliver these programs. They will also begin researching and submit proposals for the Specialty Victorian Teas in September and October, as well as our annual Victorian Christmas Teas in November and December 2019.
Continue to foster excellent working relationships with local and locally operating, tour groups and tourism associations by providing all necessary media, marketing, and programming materials as needed. Computer skills and social media literacy will be required.
Assist in the preparation and continued development of the contents of the “Bringing the Museum to You” modules, and additionally for use as content for hands-on outreach kits. They will also contact Activity Directors at local retirement residences to schedule a “Bringing the Museum to You” program at their facility and deliver it to the residents.
Review and research various historical walks held by the Museum.
Assist volunteers in enhancing our Victorian Gardens by helping to research the type of plants and flowers that were grown circa 1900 and to help plant and maintain the gardens and floral containers throughout the summer. One student will take the lead in this project.
Maintain the Museum’s social networking accounts and generate new ideas to help increase the Museum’s presence; incorporate their informational videos on the Museum’s YouTube channel.
Assist the Museums Special Events and Fundraising Committee to prepare for major fall fundraisers.
Assist in recruiting high school student volunteers to help with Museum duties, special events and programming.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We thank all who apply for these positions, but only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
