Job Description:

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is a provincially operated outdoor living history museum which presents the history of east central Alberta from a predominantly Ukrainian perspective. More than 35 historic buildings from the surrounding community have been relocated to the site presenting the time frame of 1892 – 1930. Costumed role players portray real people who once lived in the region, allowing visitors to travel back in time to learn about the area’s history, people and culture.

The teamster carries out a supporting role at the UCHV, focusing on horse drawn wagon rides and historic farm program activities specified by the Farm Program Coordinator.

Reporting to the Farm Program Coordinator, the teamster provides support services by providing daily horse drawn wagon rides to the general public and horse drawn agricultural demonstrations as required and during scheduled events. The teamster ensures horse drawn wagon rides and historic demonstrations are conducted in a safe and courteous manner and follow the site’s animal handling/harnessing procedures and occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

Teamster duties will also include knowledge and delivery of historical facts relating to the history of east central Alberta; maintenance and repair of tack and farm equipment; feeding and care of site livestock; administering of animal related first aid or notification of veterinarian in emergencies; complying with the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village’s costume requirements and performing other related duties when necessary.

A physical demonstration of safe horse handling and correct harnessing and driving procedures may be requested at time of interview.
