Job Summary
The Communications Coordinator is an energetic, creative thinker who shapes and implements a comprehensive communications plan for the Agnes Etherington Art Centre (Agnes), a research-intensive, university-based art museum. Reporting to the Director, and working closely with administrative and artistic program staff, the Communications Coordinator ensures effective internal communications and external promotion of the gallery's programs and achievements. Responsibilities encompass public and media relations, traditional and digital media including social media, e-communications and targeted marketing, coordination of print and electronic newsletters, and website management. Always sensitive to the role and mission of the art museum, the Communications Coordinator shapes an astute communications program that engages diverse audiences locally and globally.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours, according to operational needs.

Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Annually identify, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan that enhances the gallery's profile and outreach locally, nationally and globally, and reaches key audiences for programs, tracking its in-budget delivery.
o Research and maintain awareness of evolving trends and best practices in communications, including regulatory compliance regarding accessibility, privacy and security.
o Recommend new strategic promotion initiatives to develop engagement across multiple publics.
o Work with senior staff to research, recommend, write, edit and proofread content of internal and external program communications, ensuring their effectiveness and support for the integrity of the Agnes. Sustain awareness of and work with sensitivity across all gallery program streams and constituencies.
o Manage publicity with imagination, accuracy and aesthetic acuity, working closely with gallery staff and contract designers in support of the gallery's presence as a leading university-based art museum, and ensuring consistency across all promotional platforms.
o Respond to external inquiries, acting as media liaison and a public-facing contact for the Agnes. Research or develop answers to questions, referring complex issues to senior staff as necessary.
o Establish and maintain strong relationships with media contacts, journalists, opinion-makers and key stakeholders, developing promotional partnerships as appropriate, and proactively pursuing collaboration with Queen's Communications and Alumni Relations.
o Maintain up-to-date contact lists and coordinate timely information distribution.
o Edit and coordinate print and electronic newsletters. Writing of some content, as required.
o Maintain and develop the gallery's website as a meaningful communications vehicle, engagement tool, and documentation repository, and manage social media platforms.
o Draft communications for reports, proposals, media releases, and speaking points for senior staff for ceremonies, special events and receptions.
o Working with staff and contract photographers, create and manage an inventory of high-quality images documenting gallery programs for use in promotions, proposals, fundraising and reporting.
o Track and report on media coverage and maintain an archive of such coverage.
o Undertake additional duties as assigned.
