Job Description:

 

Fort George & Buckingham House Provincial Historic Site is located 13km southeast of Elk Point, AB. The site, where both the Hudson’s Bay Company and the rival Northwest Company competed, tells the story of the early fur trade in Alberta from 1792 to 1800.

As a Historical Interpreter, you will participate in the planning, development and presentation of educational programs, special events, off-site public interpretive programs, and craft and skill demonstrations. Other duties include the collection of admission fees and visitor statistics, event promotion, day-to-day administration, concession and gift shop sales, and maintaining the general order of visitor facilities. This position requires weekend work, scheduled off-site evening work and on occasion working and traveling alone.
Candidates for this position will be able to speak confidently to audiences of various sizes and ages and be able to assimilate large amounts of information quickly. Intensive training is provided weekdays May 1 to May 15, 2018.

Knowledge of historical interpretation, Canadian history, archaeology, customer service; French or Cree; Alberta’s Métis history; heritage skills and crafts would be considered assets.

Nearest rental accommodations are in Elk Point. Shared staff accommodations may be available in Elk Point (some conditions apply). Personal transportation is required to and from the work.
