The Legislative Assembly Office supports the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly – providing nonpartisan procedural, administrative and educational services.

Heritage Interpreter

As an ambassador for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta you will use your dynamic interpretation and presentation skills to deliver tours and inquiry-based educational programming focused on the history, parliamentary process and political practices of the Alberta Legislature. This includes leading interpretive tours and programs through the Legislature Building and Grounds as well as the Visitor Centre in the Edmonton Federal Building. To engage our visitors in an exceptional experience, you will project a professional and nonpartisan attitude in interactions with clients along with a strong commitment to client service.

Completion of or enrolment in postsecondary education is required. Experience in educational programming, cultural and/or historical interpretive techniques and an interest in history and the political process are assets for this position. Knowledge of Alberta’s history, indigenous cultures as well as proficiency in French, American Sign Language or other languages are considered assets. Extensive training and resources will be provided.

Rate of pay for Heritage Interpreters is $20.78 per hour plus 11.2% in lieu of holiday and statutory entitlements.

This position requires the flexibility to work day, evening, weekend and statutory holiday shifts as hours of work may vary. Heritage Interpreters may work up to 36.25 hours per week; however, there is no guarantee of minimum hours. Heritage Interpreters will be assigned one of two weekly rotations and may be booked up to five consecutive days at a time.
