Job Description:

 

Term: April 30, 2018 through September 3, 2018, plus September 9, 2018.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours/week average. Standard shift July and August is 8:00 am – 5:30 pm. Standard shift May and June is 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Above minimum wage!
Wage: $15.50/hour

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (located 25 minutes east of Edmonton on the Yellowhead Hwy 16) is an award-winning provincial historic site showcasing Ukrainian settlement in East Central Alberta (1892 – 1930). www.ukrainianvillage.ca
Description: Are you outgoing? Enjoy working with children? Interested in history and culture? As part of a dynamic team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional experiences for children and youth who have registered in summer daily and week-long day-camp programs at this unique living history open-air museum. Play a part in the cultural development and historic preservation of east central Alberta and Ukrainian immigrant experience.
Wearing a historical costume, you will deliver interpretive and lively summer programs to children and youth that reflects the lived experience of children and youth. You will use your energetic talents to engage children with appropriate activities rich in the history, cultural beliefs and traditions of Ukrainian settlement in east central Alberta from 1892 to 1930.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate sales and staff at the Ukrainian Village Museum Shop
• Perform retail services in the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Museum Shop
• Receive merchandise, enter merchandise into the retail accounting system, make and print labels, totals bill, accepts payment and make change.
• Stocks shelves, counters, and tables with merchandise.
• Set up advertising displays and arrange merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales
• Engage with customers and up-sell products
• Answer customer’s questions and be knowledgeable about Museum Shop merchandise
• Working with Shopify, populate on-line Village Museum Shop
• Clean shelves, counters, or tables
• Attend to till and carry out daily reconciliations. Remove and records amount of cash in register at end of shift
• Update and maintain record of sales, prepare inventory of stock, and reorder merchandise
• Maintain a positive and affable work environment

Qualifications & Assets:
• Completion of high school (grade 12)
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution with the intention of returning in the fall. Enrollment in business, design, communications or human resources an asset.
• Knowledge of Ukrainian-Canadian culture an asset
• Experience in retail an asset. You must be self-motivated, highly energetic, have strong communication skills
• Some knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services
• Ability to learn and retain information
• Outgoing, polite and friendly; must enjoy dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Mature and responsible attitude
• Must be comfortable working independently as well as in a team
• Valid Class 5 drivers’ license is an asset
• Standard First Aid is an asset
• Knowledgeable in Word, Excel and WordPress is required

Notes: A security clearance is a condition of employment. Successful candidates will be required to obtain a Security Clearance (Vulnerable Persons) from the police. Candidates must provide written documentation verifying that they are in compliance with legal requirements to work in jobs outside of post- secondary institutions in Canada at the time of their application for employment.
