The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV) (located 40 minutes east of Edmonton on the Yellowhead Hwy 16) is an award-winning provincial historic site showcasing Ukrainian settlement in East Central Alberta (1892 – 1930). www.ukrainianvillage.ca
Working with a dynamic team, you will provide exceptional visitor service and special event and public programming on the frontlines of this unique living history open-air museum!
The Special Events Coordinator effectively contributes to the success of the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society (FOUVS) and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV) by actively participating in the development and implementation of Village programs and special events for the public. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, you will • Organize and coordinate all aspects of programming and special event at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village organized by the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society including the Friends Ukrainian Music Festival, and the Harvest of the Past Food Festival • Plan, organize and manage the Village Vendor’s Market for four special events at UCHV during the summer of 2018 • Plan, organize and manage food vendors for four special events at UCHV during the summer of 2018 • Organize, support and manage volunteers for FOUVS for all events • Provide administrative support for children’s summer camp programs delivered by the FOUVS • Serve as a liaison and facilitating effective communications between the Friends and vendors, clients, volunteers, other partner organizations and the public • Maintain budgets for events and programs • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of various interest groups and the community • Team player - confer with FOUVS and UCHV staff to coordinate events and programming
Qualifications & Assets: • Completion of high school (grade 12); post-secondary education (current or complete), with preference for studies in tourism and hospitality, communications and marketing, history, museum studies, cultural studies • Developed written and oral communication skills • Problem-solver, creative and original, self-motivated, highly energetic, pays attention to detail • Excellent knowledge of English with some fluency in Ukrainian an asset • Knowledge of event planning and excellent organizations skills • Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing excellent customer services • Knowledge of various computer applications and platforms • Knowledge of Western Canadian history, with an emphasis on east central Alberta is an asset • Valid Class 5 drivers’ license is an asset
