Job Description:

The County of Grey is currently recruiting one Interpretive Specialist intern for Grey Roots Museum and Archives. We are looking for an engaged and dedicated post-secondary graduate who has graduated within the past 24 months from an accredited museum studies or history program and is looking for historical interpretation experience. Grey Roots is home to Museum, Archives, and Tourism services as well as Moreston Heritage Village.
Moreston Heritage Village features seven main buildings, whose interpretive narrative requires updating, and consequently improved training materials for the volunteer staff who present them to the visiting public. The chief objective of this internship project will be to review, research, revise and create a documented program for each building, and to develop interpretive materials in support of the overall village interpretive plan, as well as the narrative of each individual building. The intern will be charged with researching and developing period-appropriate demonstration activities in support of the improved village program.
Ideal candidates have taken courses in relevant disciplines (history, museum studies, education) and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in historical research and writing for public presentation. Experience in museum and historic site interpretation is required. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn discipline-specific technologies (such as microfiche and microfilm) is required. The candidate will be required to perform practical aspects of living history interpretation, such as lighting wood stoves, making candles and so on. Possessing a driver’s license is an asset. The selected candidate will be responsible, able to follow directions well, and demonstrate an ability to work with minimal supervision. A keen interest in local history is also an asset. Necessary training and support will be provided.
This internship is for a period of 20 weeks in duration 35 hours per week (September 2018 – January 2019). Overtime, evening and weekend hours may be required.

Candidates for the above position are invited to submit their résumé and cover letter (in MS Word or PDF format, if e-mailing) prior to Friday August 17, 2018 at 5 p.m. to:
