The mission of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Registry is to build an objectively verifiable database of Métis citizens through the fair and consistent application of the Registry Policy and Guidelines which are supported by an objective assessment of all fully documented applications received in a time effective manner. The prime objectives of the Registry are to evaluate ancestral lineage and assess primary and secondary documentation provided in support of applications to ensure compliance with the MNO’s Registry Policy and Guidelines as a means of ensuring that all Métis citizens registered with the MNO meet the definition of Métis in Ontario and that all Harvesters who hold a Harvester’s Certificate meet the Powley test. The Métis Nation of Ontario Registry is seeking a strong team player to serve as Historical Research Assistant in the Ottawa head office. The prime objective of the Research Assistant is to research and assess primary and secondary documentation in support of MNO’s Registry Policy and Guidelines. This is a full-time, permanent position, with enrollment in MNO group benefits and Registered Pension Plan upon successful completion of three-month probation.

Reporting to the Registrar, the duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Research and collect data through complex techniques and procedures, library research, or other project specific methodology.
- Preparing resources, equipment, materials for the research, documenting results, etc. in support of the research activities.
- Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
- Acts as the primary operational liaison for other research organizations.
- Scan documentation as required
- Any and all duties assigned by the Registrar
- Ensure the development and proper maintenance of all project files, databases, and MNO resources.
- Review and assess historical documents for the expansion of Registry Family Lines research
- Communicate and work closely with the Registrar and team members

Mandatory Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary education in related field
- Bilingual (English/French)

Asset Qualifications:
- Exceptional project coordination, time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to achieve project deliverables and meet deadlines
- Ability to work proactively as a member of a highly dynamic team, including independently with minimal supervision when required
- Subject knowledge and oral/written communication skills to discuss and document research progress.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge, and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solves technical and methodological issues
- A high level of proficiency with the Windows environment and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
- Willingness and ability to travel to travel within the province of Ontario
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
